Over the past weekend, 698 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 99 people were killed and 868 injured. 82 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on September 29 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

There were 31 bus accidents on the roads of Russia, in which one person died, and 38 more road users, including six children, needed medical help. The cause of 16 bus accidents were traffic violations committed by their drivers.

As a result of 177 accidents involving pedestrians, 17 people were killed, and another 164 were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 26 young pedestrians under the age of 16, 17 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 61 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 116 outside their area of operation. There were also 93 accidents involving minors, in which 108 young road users were injured, including 61 passengers, two cyclists and 13 motor transport drivers. Two child passengers were killed.

In one of the rural settlements of Primorsky Krai, a 46-year-old flatbed truck driver fell out of the body of a 10-year-old schoolgirl, who, along with her parents and other passengers of the truck, was returning from a vacation in nature. The girl died.

Also in one of the rural settlements, but already in the Trans-Baikal Territory, a 35-year-old drunk female driver, unable to control a car, drove off the road, after which the car overturned. The accident killed her 13-year-old daughter, who was in the front passenger seat without using a seat belt. Two more passengers of the car were hospitalized with injuries. The culprit of the car accident initially fled the scene, but two hours later she returned to the scene of the accident.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded drivers of cars and motor vehicles about the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated. Preventive measures and "continuous" checks on Russian roads to identify drivers who have ventured behind the wheel after drinking alcohol are carried out by traffic police on a regular basis.

Road users were urged not to remain indifferent to the problem of drunkenness at the wheel and promptly report to the police about drivers who behave inappropriately on the road, driving drunk. Traffic police officers are ready to take all necessary operational measures to respond to such reports.

The State Traffic Inspectorate also recommended that motorists strictly observe traffic regulations and driving discipline. It is important to correctly assess the vehicle's dimensions and speed, weather conditions, condition and width of the roadway, terrain and the possibility of skidding.

"Driver's discipline is especially necessary if there are child passengers in your car, who must be transported in compliance with all applicable safety requirements. When traveling with young passengers, avoid risky driving, dangerous maneuvers, and choose a reasonable speed limit. Always remember that the preservation of the life and health of underage passengers depends entirely on adult road users," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Earlier that day, it was reported that the Russian government had prepared a bill that would eliminate the possibility for some drivers not to pay fines for excessive tinting of windows.
