The Iranian Foreign Ministry called on the chairman of the UN Security Council to declare the imposition of sanctions illegal

On September 26, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during his speech after the vote of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the Russian-Chinese draft resolution, called on the Chairman of the UN Security Council to declare the decision to impose sanctions against the Islamic state illegal.

"We call on the President of the Security Council to declare today's decision illegal. We also urge the Secretary General to avoid attempts to restore sanctions mechanisms," he said.

According to him, any attempts to restore past anti-Iranian sanctions must be rejected.

On September 26, the UN Security Council rejected a Russian-Chinese resolution extending the validity of the Iran nuclear deal. Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky, in turn, said that the attempts of the Eurotroika to return resolutions against Tehran are "illegal."
