The head of the IAEA announced his intention to visit the NPP
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, intends to visit the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in the future, despite the danger of attacks from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) near the station.
"And I intend to return, because I think it's very important that the head of the IAEA <...> feels the very situation there," he said in an interview with RT.
At the same time, Grossi clarified that he had already been to the station in the Zaporizhia region several times. He also stressed that the NPP is located in a dangerous war zone, which makes the nuclear safety situation "very fragile."
Earlier in the day, the head of the Rosatom State Corporation, Alexei Likhachev, said at a press conference at the World Atomic Week that the situation with the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacks on the territories adjacent to the nuclear power plant and its satellite city of Energodar has now escalated. He clarified that at the station itself, which survived the most massive attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, everything is under control.
On September 2, the NPP was disconnected from the last external power supply line that supplied it. It was later reported that this happened as a result of an APU strike. The station is powered by backup diesel generators to ensure safety. On September 24, Yevgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at the NPP, reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces began shelling the NPP area on a daily basis.
