Bloomberg reported that hackers hacked Cisco devices in the US government
Hackers from the ArcaneDoor organization have hacked firewall devices with Cisco Systems software installed in US federal agencies. This was reported by Bloomberg on September 26, citing sources.
"Hackers have compromised firewall devices in the US federal government, a senior federal official said," the publication says.
According to the agency, on September 25, CISA (the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) issued an emergency directive requiring federal agencies to eliminate vulnerabilities in Cisco Systems Inc. devices, as well as identify and mitigate potential threats. CISA official Chris Butera stressed that the threat is "widespread," urging other government agencies and private companies to follow the guidance. So far, the extent of the violations is not clear, and neither CISA nor Cisco have disclosed which institutions were hacked, Bloomberg claims.
The Cisco warning, which the agency cites, says that in May 2025, the company was involved in investigating attacks carried out on firewall devices that exploited security flaws. The UK's National Cyber Security Center also issued a warning about malicious attacks, which included code injection and possible data theft.
Sam Rubin, Palo Alto's senior vice president of cybersecurity, warned in a conversation with Bloomberg that attacks are expected to escalate as cybercriminals quickly find ways to capitalize on vulnerabilities.
On July 22, Bloomberg reported that the US National Nuclear Safety Administration had been hacked as a result of hacking Microsoft SharePoint. As the agency noted, there is no accurate information about the compromised classified information of the American department.
