Cardiologist named ways to recognize and combat coronary heart disease
Coronary heart disease (CHD) can be manifested not only by pain behind the sternum, but also by other symptoms such as shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue, nausea, cardiac arrhythmias, and pain in the back, jaw, or left arm. Evgeny Kokin, cardiologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia on September 27 about how to recognize coronary heart disease.
According to him, this disease often occurs with physical exertion or emotional stress and resolves at rest or after taking nitroglycerin. Accurate diagnoses are made using electrocardiograms, stress tests, and coronary angiography.
"The nature of pain helps to distinguish ischemia from other cardiovascular diseases or non-cardiac causes — it often occurs during physical exertion or emotional stress and resolves at rest or after taking nitroglycerin, as well as instrumental studies: electrocardiogram, stress tests and coronary angiography provide accurate confirmation," the doctor said.
According to him, modern methods of treating coronary artery disease include percutaneous coronary interventions such as stenting and balloon angioplasty, and in severe cases, coronary artery bypass grafting. However, surgical intervention does not eliminate the need for drug therapy and lifestyle changes. Treatment of coronary heart disease requires a comprehensive approach, including diet, weight and blood pressure control, as well as regular physical activity.
In addition, Kokin added, smoking cessation and stress management play a key role in reducing the burden on the heart and preventing new episodes of ischemia. The doctor emphasized that any recurring pain behind the sternum should be a reason to immediately consult a doctor, and proper therapy and a healthy lifestyle can control the disease and improve the quality of life of patients with coronary heart disease.
Earlier, on August 5, Ella Vinogradova, a cardiologist at the Sberbank Health medical company, spoke about signs of heart failure during exercise. The specialist explained that with heart failure, the heart cannot cope with ensuring adequate blood flow. Among the most common causes are coronary heart disease, arterial hypertension, heart defects, previous myocardial infarction, myocarditis, pericarditis, as well as the effects of radiation and chemotherapy. In some cases, alcohol abuse or rare conditions such as thyrotoxicosis and tumor lesions of the heart can lead to a violation.
