The Investigative Committee confirmed the detention of two suspects in the case of alcohol poisoning.

Two suspects in the Leningrad region were detained in the case of fatal alcohol poisoning. This was announced on September 26 by the press service of the investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (IC RF) for the region.

"The Kingisepp interdistrict investigative Department of the SU IC of Russia for the Leningrad region has opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence to two or more persons")," the Telegram channel said.

It is specified that on September 25, the bodies of a man and a woman suffering from alcohol addiction were found. During the inspection, law enforcement officers found a plastic bottle partially filled with a clear liquid with the smell of alcohol.

It has been established that a man born in 1946 and a woman born in 1964 are suspected of selling alcohol-containing products to the victims. At the moment, the defendants have been detained, and a petition has been filed for the election of a preventive measure in the form of detention.

According to the press service of the department, law enforcement officers identify other persons affected by the use of these alcohol-containing products.

On the same day, it was reported that the death toll due to poisoning with surrogate alcohol in the Leningrad region increased to 12. During September, there were 19 victims. It was clarified that the accused Nikolai Boytsov, who lives in the village of Gostitsy, sold low-quality alcoholic beverages to fellow villagers, which he produced right in his apartment. His accomplice Olga Boitsova, who supplied alcohol for subsequent bottling and sale, is an employee of a kindergarten.

During a search of Boytsov's apartment, empty glass bottles and plastic cans with a volume of up to 10 liters with a characteristic odor of alcohol-containing liquid were found.
