The Ambassador of Palestine announced the submission of the state's application for membership in the BRICS

Palestine has applied for membership in the BRICS. This was announced on September 26 by the Palestinian Ambassador to Russia, Abdel Hafiz Nofal.

"We have submitted an application, but as you know, Palestine has certain conditions. I believe that Palestine will participate in the unification as a guest until the conditions allow it to become a full member," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

He added that Palestine has not yet received a response on the application.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said on September 23 that recognizing Palestine was a historic duty to its people. He also stressed that Moscow is ready to act with "sensible members of the international community" to contribute to the establishment of peace in the Middle East.

On the same day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said that Russia had recognized Palestine long before the escalation in the region.
