- The pediatrician spoke about the ability of doctors and teachers to tolerate diseases more easily
Teachers and doctors get sick at least as often as representatives of other professions, but they tolerate diseases more easily: they have a lower fever, shorter periods of ill health, and fewer complications, Maryam Saifulina, pediatrician at JSC Meditsina (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia.
"Teachers and health workers are more likely to encounter viruses and are more likely to get sick at the very beginning of their careers. Over time, the body learns to recognize and suppress infections faster," the doctor explained.
She added that professional immunity does form, but not to all viruses. For example, if we get sick with a certain strain of influenza or SARS, we get short—term immunity - for 6-12 months. At the same time, viruses mutate, and new ones arrive every year.
According to the pediatrician, doctors take precautions to stay in the period of seasonal illnesses.
"Doctors wear not only a mask, but also glasses to protect the mucous membranes of the eyes (viruses enter the body through the conjunctiva). It is necessary to rinse the nose and gargle after each contact with the patient, change clothes and shower immediately after returning home," explains Saifulina.
The pediatrician also reminded about the need for regular intake of vitamin D and zinc during the cold season. In addition, you should sleep at least eight hours and find time to rest.
