Kovalchuk called Russia one of the most high-tech powers in the world
Russia is one of the most high—tech powers in the world. This was announced on September 25 by Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.
"Today we are one of the most high—tech powers in the world <...> We are ready to face any danger and act in such a way that our world is safe, reliable and guarantees sovereignty for many years," Kovalchuk emphasized in his address to the forum participants.
Also during the forum, he recalled the key milestones of the USSR atomic project, which was founded by academician Igor Kurchatov, a native of the Southern Urals.
"We were able to make atomic weapons only because fundamental science was very well developed in the Soviet Union in the 1920s, and in-depth research in the field of nuclear physics was conducted at the highest global level," Kovalchuk said.
He added that the nuclear project has given impetus to the development of new scientific directions and advanced technologies in energy, medicine and other fields. Among the achievements are the creation of unique mega—installations, new materials, and computational methods. Thus, according to Mikhail Kovalchuk, Russia has guaranteed its sovereignty over the long years of the existence of civilization.
In addition, the speech focused on the role of journalists in popularizing science and increasing its importance in society. The event brought together representatives of the scientific community and the media to discuss topical issues of scientific achievements coverage.
Prior to that, on September 5, Alexey Likhachev, Director of Rosatom State Corporation, stated during the session "500 years on the horizon: from discoveries to innovations of the Northern Sea Route" at the Eastern Economic Forum 2025 (WEF 2025) that the nuclear triad is a competitive advantage of Russia. The head of Rosatom stressed that a number of tasks will have to be solved in the coming decades, including the cost of borrowed money, since from 2028-2029 the state corporation will have to increase borrowing to finance the construction of nuclear power plants.
