Russia is gripped by an epidemic of telephone fraud. 300 billion rubles of damage, 130 thousand crimes in 2024 alone — these are the statistics of the Prosecutor General's Office. Behind these numbers are millions of calls a day and thousands of broken lives. Every day, from 50 to 70 thousand Russians transfer their money to scammers.

Even the most educated people become victims of scams, as in the case of a 77-year-old Doctor of economics, a professor at Moscow State University, who was persuaded to transfer 30 million rubles, sell two apartments and take his own life. His daughter, who agreed to meet with the authors of the film, is convinced that her father committed suicide under pressure from fraudsters.

This tragic story is far from an isolated incident. We are talking about a well-established mechanism with manuals and supervisors. Criminals use psychological pressure technologies, completely subjugating the victim's will. The film reveals how manipulators drive people to extremes: they force them to take out loans, sell their only homes, and commit terrorist attacks. Viewers of REN TV will see shocking footage of bombings carried out by victims of fraudsters, not knowing that they were turned into suicide bombers.

A REN TV crew recorded an interview with an 87-year-old pensioner who transferred 900,000 personal savings and money from the sale of an apartment to fraudsters, and then, without realizing it, almost committed a terrorist attack. There was an explosive device in the bag that the elderly woman was supposed to get out of the cache and deliver to the specified address.

His mother will tell the shocking story of a 14-year-old teenager, an excellent student and a patriot, who was sure that he was helping the FSB, but in fact committed sabotage on the instructions of Ukrainian curators. Now he is involved in a criminal case under one of the most serious articles — "terrorism".

The authors of the film will reveal the mechanism of manipulation and give practical recommendations on how to recognize deception and protect yourself. Viewers will learn who is behind a well-established network of call centers and how foreign messengers contribute to deception and theft. And in an exclusive interview with REN TV, the developers of the national messenger MAX will explain why the introduction of this application can undermine the foundation of fraudulent business in Russia.

Documentary investigation "Fraudsters from Ukraine: How not to become a victim?" will be broadcast on REN TV on Saturday, September 27, at 17:00.
