Traffic police officers monitor compliance with traffic regulations using drones in 29 regions of Russia. This was announced by Mikhail Kotov, Senior Inspector for Special Assignments of the Main Directorate for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

According to the results of 2022-2023, about 35 thousand traffic violations were detected using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), he said. Most often, UAVs recorded driving into the oncoming lane and violations of the location of cars on the roadway, TASS reported on September 23. In addition, according to Kotov, for example, in the Kurgan region, with the help of drones, violations related to driving through a traffic light were detected.

In the Krasnodar Territory, from July 2022 to March 2023, over 24,000 traffic violations were detected using UAVs, which accounted for 68% of all recorded in this way in the Russian Federation during this period. In this region and Dagestan, the Typhoon hardware and software complex based on the Bumblebee unmanned aircraft is used, it is capable of detecting violations in automatic mode.

The representative of the department explained that the use of drones is especially effective on roads with undeveloped infrastructure, where the use of photo-video recording is impossible or impractical for economic reasons.
