The list of free vaccinations for Russians can be expanded as soon as the vaccines that meet the requirements are ready for mass use. This was announced on September 23 by Sergey Leonov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection.

"It is absolutely necessary [to expand]," he said in an interview with TASS.

The deputy clarified that among the new vaccines that can be included in the list is a drug against meningococcal infection, which poses a threat to life. At the moment, this vaccine is undergoing clinical trials.

"Now such a vaccine has been created, it is undergoing clinical trials. It was created by the Federal Medical and Biological Agency," Leonov said.

In addition, he noted that there are other infections against which vaccination should be included in the national vaccination calendar.

On September 22, State Duma deputy and member of the Health Committee Yulia Drozhzhina proposed to include human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in the national vaccination calendar. Currently, the procedure is available for compulsory medical insurance (CHI) only in certain regions.
