- Vershinin announced Russia's recognition of Palestine long before the escalation in the region
Russia recognized the statehood of Palestine long before the conflict with Israel and the escalation in the Middle East region. This was announced on September 23 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin.
"I would like to remind you that Russia, like the vast majority of the world's 149 countries, has long recognized the legitimate rights of the Palestinians to return and self—determination, and their just aspirations for their own state," he said during the UN General Assembly conference on the Palestinian issue in New York.
President Emmanuel Macron announced on September 22 that Paris recognized the statehood of Palestine. He also stated that the recognition of Palestinian statehood "does not detract" from the rights of the Israeli people. In addition, Macron added that France is ready to participate in an international mission to stabilize the situation in Gaza.
Earlier, on September 21, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom recognized the statehood of Palestine. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stressed that the joint efforts of the three countries are aimed at creating a new impetus for a two-state solution, which will include a cease-fire in Gaza and the release of hostages captured by Hamas on October 7, 2023.
