The performance of Russian figure skater Pyotr Gumennik at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Beijing was an example of the highest skill. This was announced on September 21 by the Minister of Sports, Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Mikhail Degtyarev.

"Humennik demonstrated the highest level of training and confidently won the Olympic ticket. His performance in Beijing was an example of the highest sportsmanship: four cleanly executed quadruple jumps and confident work at the box office brought a well—deserved victory," the Ministry of Sports quoted him as saying on the Telegram channel.

Degtyarev noted the importance of Russia being represented in men's single skating by a strong athlete who is able to compete for high places at the Olympics.

The minister added that Russian figure skater Adelia Petrosyan had been selected before Humennik, and stressed that now the Russian Federation has two leaders who will defend the honor of the national figure skating school at the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan.

Earlier that day, Humennik won the qualifying tournament in Beijing, thereby securing his place in the 2026 Olympic Games. In the free skate, the skater scored 169.02 points and won the tournament with a total score of 262.82 points based on the results of the two programs.
