Pashinyan stated the surprise of Armenian children at finding Ararat in Turkey

Children in Armenia were very surprised when they found out that Mount Ararat, which had been depicted as a symbol of the country for many years, was actually geographically located on the territory of Turkey. This was stated on September 20 by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the 7th congress of the Civil Contract Party.

The politician said that he approached a group of local children and asked a question about "the highest mountain in Armenia."

"70% of the children replied that they do not even know that Ararat is not located on the territory of Armenia. Even many who communicate with us, the Armenians, do not know this because we say so," Pashinyan said, the congress was broadcast by the "Armenpress" agency.

Pashinyan stressed that the misconception that Ararat is not located in Turkey is widespread even among the adult Armenian population.

"Then they find out, they wonder — isn't Ararat located on the territory of the Republic of Armenia? What do they think of us?" the prime minister noted.

On September 18, Pashinyan noted that the decision of the Armenian government to remove the image of Mount Ararat from the stamps of the country's visas has nothing to do with any demands of the Turkish authorities and recent visits to Yerevan by the country's special representative Serdar Kilic. He noted that the country itself must recognize the territorial integrity of Armenia and its sovereignty with internationally recognized territory and borders.
