The European Union (EU) countries are considering the option of imposing restrictions against the import of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline, which supplies Hungary and Slovakia, Bloomberg reported on September 20.

"These plans are not related to the proposals for a new package of sanctions that the EU presented on Friday [September 19]. <...> Unlike sanctions, which require the support of all member states of the bloc, trade measures such as tariffs require the support of only the majority of capitals," the article says.

It is noted that in the case of the introduction of new restrictive rules, the European Union would be able to fulfill the main requirement of US President Donald Trump, which he imposes on the bloc as a condition that Washington could again join the allies in imposing restrictions against Russia.

On September 5, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, after meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Uzhgorod, announced that he would not supply oil and gas coming from Russia to Slovakia. He added that he is ready to supply gas and oil to Slovakia, but only if it is not Russian energy resources.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on September 10 that the Belarusian side had assured Hungary that it would continue to guarantee the safe transit of Russian oil. He also thanked Minsk for the reliability of the transit of Russian oil, while not increasing the fee for it.
