Most of the deaths in Russia are related to diseases of the heart, blood vessels, malignant neoplasms and diabetes mellitus. This was announced on September 20 by the head of the office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Moscow, Batyr Berdyklychev.

"According to statistics, the main burden of diseases in the Russian Federation is primarily caused by non-communicable chronic diseases such as heart and vascular diseases, malignant neoplasms, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes mellitus. These diseases account for more than 80% of all deaths in the country," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

As Berdyklychev pointed out, it is important to keep in mind the risk factors that contribute to the development of these diseases. Among them are alcohol abuse, tobacco smoking, high blood pressure, high salt intake, unhealthy diet and air pollution. According to Berdyklychev, all this significantly affects diseases and mortality.

Earlier, on September 3, Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko said that in Russia over the past 10 years, infant mortality has more than doubled. According to him, an integrated approach to maternal and child health made it possible to reduce the infant mortality rate to 3.6 ppm in the first half of 2025, which is a historical minimum.
