- The EC will tighten control over the export of raw materials for the industry of the Russian Federation, India and China
As part of the 19th package of sanctions against Russia, the European Commission (EC) will present proposals to tighten export controls for Russian, Chinese and Indian companies, as well as ban the export of certain chemicals. This was announced on September 19 by the High Diplomat of the European Union (EU) Kaya Kallas.
"We are adding new chemicals, metal components, salts and ores to our export bans and tightening export controls for companies from Russia, as well as China and India," Kallas wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Earlier in the day, the European Commission proposed imposing sanctions on 45 Russian and foreign companies as part of the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions. It is noted that the new sanctions package will include a ban on investments in Russian special economic zones (SEZs) related to the Ukrainian conflict. The EC also proposed to introduce a complete ban on the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Russian Federation by January 2027.
Earlier, on September 16, von der Leyen said that the new package of EU sanctions against Russia would affect cryptocurrencies, banks and energy. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 17 that the sanctions policy had actually harmed the EU itself. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on September 18 that he saw no problems in applying new sanctions against Russia.
