CSKA lost to Baltika on penalties in the Russian Cup match

Moscow football club (FC) CSKA lost to Kaliningrad Baltic in a penalty shootout in the fourth round match of the group stage of the Russian Premier League (RPL) FONBET Cup of Russia. The game took place on September 18 in Moscow at the VEB Arena stadium.

The main time ended in a 1-1 draw. In the 38th minute, the Army team was led by forward Tamerlan Musaev, but in the last minutes, forward Kirill Stepanov of Baltika equalized the score.

In the post—match series, the Baltika players were luckier - 10:9. The winning shot from the "point" was delivered by the goalkeeper of the Kaliningrad team Ivan Kukushkin.

CSKA's first match was played by newcomers — Brazilian midfielder Enrique Carmo, who transferred from Sao Paulo, and Serbian midfielder Matija Popovic, who previously played for Napoli. Both players came on as substitutes in the second half.

Baltika scored their first victory in the current Russian Cup, having previously lost three matches. CSKA suffered its third defeat in 13 official meetings.

Earlier, on September 17, Zenit St. Petersburg defeated FC Akhmat from Grozny with a score of 2:1 in the home match of the fourth round of the RPL group stage. The victory was brought by the double of Zenit football player Alexander Sobolev — he scored in the 43rd and 59th minutes.
