MMC Group doctors told about the medical results of the Time of the Strong project
In the period from September 15 to September 18, the jubilee X All—Russian Occupational Safety Week - VNOT-2025 took place on the federal territory of Sirius. At the scientific and practical conference that took place these days, the leading doctors of the My Medical Center Group of Companies told how, for the first time in world history, they managed to prepare a group of veterans of a special military operation (SVO) with prosthetic legs to climb Mount Elbrus.
An expanded exhibition was organized within the framework of the VNOT. Also, for the first time, the exhibition includes stands dedicated to the rehabilitation, restoration of the health of workers and the medical and social adaptation of veterans of the SVO.
The participants of VNOT-2025 were presented the achievements of the Beloostrov High—Tech Clinic, Russia's first "medical city," and told about the unique medical program created by MMC Group to enhance the physical capabilities of people after prosthetics.
Dozens of doctors from different regions of Russia took part in the conference "Time of the Strong: Medicine and Technology". At the Sirius Sports Medical Clinic, the leading experts of MMC Group shared their professional secrets and told the medical community about all the stages and key outcomes of the unique program, which was developed in leading Russian medical organizations: the Beloostrov High-Tech Clinic, the Sports Medical Clinic and the White Nights Sanatorium.
"We faced a very difficult medical task — to find new approaches to rehabilitation and adaptation of a person after a complex mine-explosion injury in order for the body to cope with extreme stress," said Vladislav Baranov, PhD, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MMC Group of Companies.
According to him, a deep, comprehensive analysis of the body of all potential participants in the Time of the Strong project (veterans of the military on prosthetics) was carried out, and those whose physical and functional reserves needed to be brought to the peak of their capabilities were selected for the team. A unique training complex has been developed for them to ensure a safe ascent into the mountains to an altitude of 5642 m above sea level and descent down. Vladislav Baranov stressed that previously this had not been possible for medical organizations either in Russia or abroad.
"We have gone beyond the standard approach to the diagnosis and rehabilitation of patients with prosthetics. Despite the fact that the Russian school of military medicine is one of the leading in the world, doctors have never faced the task of rallying and returning a group of amputees to an active social life through sports with extreme loads," said Oksana Gutkina, head of the Department of functional Diagnostics at the Beloostrov Clinic.
It is specified that the main stage of physical and functional training of the participants of the "Time of the Strong" project took place on the basis of the "Sports Medical Clinic", at FT Sirius. Here, in a unique climate chamber, on biofeedback simulators to enhance physical abilities, develop balance and stimulate the work of major muscle groups, the veterans of the Russian Military on prosthetics were preparing for their first acclimatization trips to the mountains.
"The main secret of the success of the project's medical team consisted of three components. First, there is the continuous work of a multidisciplinary team of doctors from three regions: the Leningrad Region, where the Beloostrov Clinic is located, the staff of our Sports Medical Clinic in Sirius, as well as colleagues from the White Nights sanatorium and experts from the Bionics 2.0 prosthetics center in St. Petersburg. Secondly, it combines all the world—leading technologies in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients who have suffered mine-explosion injuries. And, thirdly— in a personalized approach to each participant, which eventually allowed six veterans of their military on prosthetic legs not only to climb Mount Elbrus, but also to expand their social and physical horizons," added Alexander Fokin, Deputy Chief Physician for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at the Sports Medical Clinic, doctor of the climbing team.
It is noted that the doctors did not study specific nosologies, but started from an assessment of the reserves of each participant's body in order to analyze all the nuances of the cardiovascular, nervous and respiratory systems and develop those individual physical and training training programs that were most effective for each participant of the Time of the Strong project.
Almost two months after the storming of Elbrus, the participants of the "Time of the Strong" project themselves told about the contribution to the physical development of veterans of their military on prosthetic legs made by training in a unique medical program.
"When I meet new people now who don't know that I'm wearing a prosthetic, they're surprised.: my gait is no different from those who walk on two legs. After the project, it became much easier for me to get up and down. I am happy to continue playing sports and doing the exercises that the doctors have developed for us," said Artem Tumak, a veteran of the Free Military and a participant in the Time of the Strong project.
Six veterans of the Donbass Defense Forces climbed to the top of Mount Elbrus, despite prosthetics and the consequences of wounds received in battle, and this achievement became revolutionary for Russian medicine. The Time of the Strong project was launched in Beloostrov, where specialists from the My Medical Center group of companies fully examined future climbing participants and developed individual training programs for them.
