The U.S. Senate has approved the candidacy of former National Security Adviser Michael Waltz for the position of the country's permanent mission to the United Nations. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on September 17.

"The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has considered 36 candidates, including such high—profile candidates as former National Security Adviser Michael Waltz for the post of U.S. ambassador to the United Nations," the publication says.

It is noted that the voting took place along party lines.

Earlier, on September 9, the current US permanent representative to the UN, Matthew Whitaker, announced Ukraine's readiness to "freeze" the front line. Whitaker added that a potential agreement could be based on the principles of protecting the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and the entire Russian-speaking population.

On the same day, Whitaker, naming the possible terms of a peace deal on Ukraine, noted the importance of getting agreement on it from both sides. In addition, he stated that there were "certain limits" to the future agreement.
