Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered preparations to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of Catherine II. The decree, signed by the President of the country, was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

By decree, Putin ordered the government to create an organizing committee to prepare the celebration, as well as develop a plan for major events.

It clarifies that this decree was adopted "taking into account the great importance of Catherine II's reforms for the history of Russia."

On September 12, Putin said that preserving historical memory is one of the most important tasks in the field of culture. He also noted that Russia attaches high priority to the topic of cultural and humanitarian dimension.
