Russian importers have suspended accepting applications for cars up to 160 hp.

A number of importers who supply foreign cars to Russia have suspended accepting orders for cars with engines over 160 hp. These measures were taken in order to avoid overpayment in the event of a resolution on the revision of the mechanism for calculating scrap collection, <url> Magazine reported on September 17.

According to market expert Pavel Karin, his company has stopped accepting orders for cars from China, and applications for a car from South Korea will be considered only until October 1. Otherwise, there is a risk that the new recycling calculation scheme will take effect while the ordered car is still in the delivery process, and as a result, the payment for it will be significantly higher than expected, he explained.

Kirill Chernov from Autorevisorro reported on the adoption of similar measures. If the new mechanism is adopted, the import of a number of used models will cease to make sense due to overpayments in the projected range from 1.5 to 3.5 million rubles, he said. At the same time, as noted in the note, the Avilon dealer network did not suspend the acceptance of applications for the supply of custom cars.

The draft government decree developed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade assumes the introduction of a new criterion for calculating the size of the scrap yard from November 1 of this year — engine power. According to the department, the existing grace periods for individual importers who carry cars for personal use (3.4 thousand rubles for new models and 5.2 thousand rubles for cars older than three years) will remain. However, they will only apply to models no more powerful than 160 hp.
