The Czech government has abolished the visa-free regime for holders of diplomatic and official passports of Georgia. This was announced on September 17 by the head of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jan Lipavsky.

"Today, at my suggestion, the government approved the introduction of a visa regime for holders of diplomatic and official passports of Georgia. We are responding to the disrespect for human rights, the suppression of demonstrations and the weakening of civil society," Lipavsky wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to him, this measure suspends the visa-free regime for Georgian diplomats.

On September 16, Anitta Hipper, the official representative of the European Union's (EU) Foreign Policy Service, said at a briefing that the European Commission (EC) was studying the possibility of imposing sanctions against the Georgian authorities and was considering suspending the visa-free regime. According to her, political contacts with Tbilisi have significantly decreased, and financial support for the Georgian authorities has been suspended.
