- The United States has set a reward of up to $ 5 million for information about the leader of the Sinaloa cartel
The U.S. State Department has announced a reward of up to $5 million for information that will help apprehend the leader of the Sinaloa cartel, Juan Jose Ponce Felix, known as "El Ruso." This was announced on September 16 by Tommy Pigott, deputy head of the press service of the US Department of State.
According to the DEA and the FBI, Felix is the founder of the Los Rusos group, the armed wing of the La Mayisa faction associated with the Sinaloa Cartel. This organization is engaged in the production and smuggling of fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine in the United States.
"This reward offer reflects the U.S. commitment to bringing drug cartel leaders to justice and curbing transnational crime," the State Department said in a statement.
Felix has previously been charged in the United States in drug, weapons, and money laundering cases.
Earlier, on August 27, the United States announced its intentions to receive $15 billion from the Mexican drug lord, co-founder of the Sinaloa cartel, Ismael Sambad Garcia, known as "El Mayo." This amount was calculated based on the cartel's estimated profits from drug trafficking since the 1980s. It was noted that the confiscation of property "gives American prosecutors the opportunity to demonstrate their tough stance in the fight against crime."
