The military expert pointed out the critical consequences of Starlink failures for the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Failures in the Starlink satellite communication system of the American company SpaceX pose a serious threat to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), as it allows controlling long-range drones and organizing combat command. Military expert Alexei Leonkov told Izvestia about this on September 15.

"Such failures can affect the operation of all these systems. This could be data loss, loss of drone control. That is, in principle, it will have an impact, but it is still difficult to say how much," the expert noted.

He added that SpaceX is probably already dealing with the problems that have arisen. If the failures are caused by software, they will most likely perform a system update. In case of hardware malfunctions, satellites will need to be replaced.

In addition, the military expert stressed that Russian troops have the opportunity to influence the Starlink system using electronic warfare (EW), which has repeatedly led to violations in the management of Ukrainian forces.

"During the so-called Kharkov offensive, the Ukrainian army lost its combat control system, which had a positive effect on the line of contact. We repelled all their attacks and defeated them even on the approaches to the first line of defense," Leonkov concluded.

On the same day, the Downdetector portal, which monitors failures and outages of popular Internet resources, reported that Starlink had malfunctions all over the world. Complaints about the poor quality of the communication system were received from Ukraine, Italy, the USA, Poland and other countries.
