- The media reported on the talks between Syria and Israel on reaching an agreement on the border
Syria is negotiating with Israel to reach an agreement on security and reduce tension on the border between the two states. The Jerusalem Post newspaper wrote about this on September 13, citing a statement by the President of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) Ahmed al-Sharaa.
Earlier it was reported that Damascus would not demand that Israel return part of the Golan Heights, which it occupied in 1967, but would require the Israeli leadership to recognize the new Syrian authorities.
According to the Syrian leader, Damascus is negotiating the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from the territory in the south of the SAR, which Israel occupied after the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The Syrian leader noted that his country does not seek conflicts with any countries in the region.
It is noted that negotiations between Damascus and Tel Aviv on a return to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement that followed the Yom Kippur War are still underway.
In addition, the newspaper also reports on a meeting between Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the US forces in the Middle East, and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, which took place on September 12 at the presidential palace in Damascus.
Earlier, on July 25, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Israel does not intend to restore stability and security in Syria. He also added that the goal of Ankara's foreign policy is to ensure security on its borders, and therefore its interest in peace and stability in the countries bordering Turkey.
