Deputies of the LDPR faction in the State Duma, led by Leonid Slutsky, proposed introducing strict standardization of goods intended for children, be it food, clothing, shoes, toys and games, cosmetics and hygiene products, furniture and publishing products. The relevant bill was submitted to the State Duma on September 12, 2025, Izvestia found out.

The authors of the initiative believe that this will help establish uniform requirements for the quality and safety of children's products.

"The LDPR is increasingly complaining about the quality of children's products. The problem is confirmed by the experts' assessments. For example, only 5% of the studied blouses for schoolgirls meet quality standards, while the rest are uncomfortable to wear and even toxic. An even more alarming picture is with soft toys — in proven products with the image of one of the heroes of computer games, 88% turned out to be dangerous to children's health. Is this carelessness or deliberate sabotage?" Leonid Slutsky explained to Izvestia.

According to him, the government and business should clearly understand that the health of the nation largely depends on the quality and safety of children's products, and in the long run, life expectancy in the country. And providing it in this matter is the primary task of adults.

"This is the same protection of the rights of consumers, only they are still small, which makes it ten times more responsible. Therefore, the Liberal Democratic Party proposes to establish mandatory standardization of children's products. This list should include food, clothing, shoes, toys and games, cosmetics and hygiene products, furniture and publishing products. Moreover, the procedure for such standardization should be determined by the Government of the Russian Federation. In this way, we will provide a unified approach that defines the minimum set of required properties for children's products. Standardization will also allow you to quickly respond to possible hazards. Such as the appearance of new toxic materials, etc. Children are our future, and the Liberal Democratic Party will ensure it reliably!" said Leonid Slutsky.

Rosstandart is already developing new GOST standards for key categories of children's products, but the LDPR initiative will give these standards a legislative basis. This is also useful for businesses: the introduction of uniform and understandable standardization rules will create a predictable environment, reduce the risks of non-compliance with product requirements, and eliminate unfair competition from counterfeit manufacturers, the LDPR is convinced.

On August 1, Antonina Tsitsulina, President of the Association of Enterprises of the Children's Goods Industry, told the Izvestia News center that since that day, the countries of the Customs Union have introduced a new interstate standard (GOST) for toys, which will help parents choose them based on the age of the child. In addition, the document focuses on terminology, which will now be updated with the introduction of new toys.
