The United States may conclude a trade deal with India after it refuses to purchase Russian oil. This was announced on September 11 by U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Latnick in an interview with CNBC.

"India as a whole needs to open its market and stop buying Russian oil <...> I believe that everything will be resolved when they stop buying Russian oil," Latnik said.

Latnik also said that the United States is waiting for a big deal with Taiwan, and added that a trade agreement is likely to be concluded with Switzerland.

On September 4, Trump abandoned a trade agreement with India over Russian oil. The source said that India had offered a significant reduction in duties on American goods, but this did not help to conclude a deal.

On September 10, the European Union rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's request to impose high tariffs on goods from China and India, saying the EU does not use tariffs as a sanctions tool. It is noted that Trump made this request on September 9 during a meeting on sanctions between the United States and the EU in Washington. His goal was to increase pressure on Russia by limiting India's oil purchases from Russia.
