Congress asked to strengthen security measures after Charlie Kirk's murder
United States lawmakers are calling for increased security following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a political activist and ally of US President Donald Trump. Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson told CNN about this on September 10.
"I think a lot of them are nervous, of course. They are public figures. They are constantly in plain sight. We have excellent security measures for members of Congress, but many people have a desire to have more," he said in an interview.
Johnson added that they must take "serious measures in serious times."
The assassination attempt on Kirk, who was an ally of Trump, was carried out on September 10. A politician who had previously openly opposed providing military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has died.
The commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety, Bo Mason, called the incident a "targeted attack" against one person.
