EU Court rejects Yanukovych's claim to lift sanctions
The Court of Justice of the European Union (EU) has rejected the claim of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych for the lifting of sanctions against him. The relevant ruling was published on September 10 on the website of the European Court of General Jurisdiction.
The court concluded that between 2012 and 2022, the former president allegedly committed "acts that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine."
Yanukovych will have to pay his own legal costs and the costs of the EU Council on his own, the case file says.
It is also reported that Yanukovych has been challenging court decisions on the imposition and maintenance of sanctions against him since 2022.
The imposition of sanctions against Viktor Yanukovych and his son became known on August 4, 2022. It was noted that the European Council added their names to the list of persons subject to restrictive measures.
