- The agreement between Iran and the IAEA did not include the resumption of inspections of nuclear facilities
The new agreement on the resumption of cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) does not imply the agency's access to Iranian nuclear facilities. This was stated on September 10 by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in an interview with SNN TV channel.
"I must emphasize that on the basis of this agreement, the IAEA inspectors will no longer be granted access anywhere, except for the Bushehr NPP in order to replace fuel at this NPP. <...> This agreement itself does not provide for any access," Araghchi stressed.
He added that later Iran will provide reports on the basis of which it is expected to agree on the type of possible access of IAEA staff to nuclear facilities.
On September 9, Araghchi announced the approval of new terms of cooperation with the IAEA after the suspension of cooperation and the termination of inspections at the nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic. It was clarified that the parties have begun negotiations aimed at creating a new mechanism to fulfill Iran's obligations under guarantees and ensure continued cooperation.
