Vladimir Putin was told about the "rejuvenating strawberries" in the Sirius center
Scientists from Sirius University of Science and Technology demonstrated to Russian President Vladimir Putin new plant varieties bred using genome editing technology. The event took place on September 9 in the federal territory of Sirius.
"Here you see the merlot variety, for the first time in the world they were able to edit the grape genome, get grapes that are resistant to fungal infections, less crop loss, and less pesticide poisoning. The strawberries you see next are also edited strawberries, which contain 12 times more quercetin," Roman Ivanov, chairman of the university's academic council, said during a conversation with Putin.
Earlier that day, the head of the Russian Federation arrived at the Sirius University laboratory complex. It was specified that the Russian leader would also hold a meeting with young scientists.
