- Footage of the situation in Kathmandu after the start of mass protests has been published
After the start of mass protests in the Nepalese capital, the situation was shown on September 9 by a special correspondent of Izvestia, Shyam Karki.
The video behind him shows the parliament building burning, almost hidden by thick smoke.
"The youth have taken over today and destroyed everything. Even in the Kathmandu valleys and beyond Kathmandu, all over Nepal, they are taking over government buildings, the Prime Minister's block and the president's block too," the journalist reported.
Mass protests in Nepal began on September 8 after the authorities banned the activities of major social networks that did not register with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on time. On September 9, protesters set fire to the central office of the ruling Nepali Congress Party, and they also attacked Nepal's Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel.
According to the latest data, a total of 22 people were killed and about 500 injured during the protests. Alexander Ivashev, press attache at the Russian Embassy in Kathmandu, told Izvestia that Russians were not among the victims. The official representative of the embassy urged to remain calm, monitor the normalization of the situation and "not force" the return to Kathmandu.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
