Moscow should introduce a discount on travel to the metro and the MCC for citizens using intercept parking lots. This initiative was made by Alexander Davankov, deputy chairman of the New People party, deputy of the Moscow City Duma. He sent a letter to Moscow's Deputy Mayor for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov, TASS reported on September 9.

Drivers in the capital can park their cars in intercept parking lots for free, provided they take the subway. However, according to the author of the initiative, the stimulating effect is not enough to "fully change the transport behavior of citizens and significantly relieve the roads."

Davankov believes that the introduction of discounts on the metro and the MCC for such drivers will help reduce congestion and improve air quality in the capital, which will bring economic and social benefits exceeding the possible costs of providing discounts. The technical base for the implementation of the idea already exists on the basis of Troika transport cards and integrated payment systems, he noted.

Earlier in the day, the Telegram channel of the capital's deptrans said that eight new intercept parking lots were opened in Moscow at the end of 2024, the most popular of which was the parking lot at the Phystech metro station, where drivers left cars 40 thousand times. There are already 110 such parking lots in Moscow.

Liksutov said on September 8 that the Moscow City Hall has no task to make all parking paid. At the same time, he noted that the introduction of paid parking solves many problems for local residents who are deprived of free places because of others who come to the area for a while.

Prior to that, on August 26, the State Duma proposed banning the installation of paid parking in Moscow near schools, kindergartens, medical institutions and other social facilities. The author of the idea noted that such a ban helps to increase the availability of services for Muscovites and will have a positive impact on their lives.
