Residents of the Moscow region were warned about the theft of money by scammers through NFC

Fraudsters are increasingly using NFC technology to steal funds from bank cards. This was announced on September 5 by the press service of the Main Directorate of Regional Security of the Moscow Region.

NFC Technology (Near Field Communication, "short-range communication") It allows data exchange between devices at a distance of up to 10 cm and is used, among other things, for contactless payments, Radio 1 notes.

The regional GURB reported that fraudsters began using it for embezzlement. According to them, the attackers call the victim on behalf of bank employees or the police, talk about hacking his personal account and offer to install a "protective" application. After that, they are asked to attach the card to the phone and enter the PIN code. In fact, the program reads the data via NFC and sends it to the scammers, who then withdraw the money.

Another way is that the victim is intimidated by false reports of account hacking and, under the pretext of protection, is forced to install malicious Software. It simulates someone else's card, and the person transfers the money to their account on the instructions of the scammers.

The agency recommends not downloading applications from questionable sources, not transmitting a PIN code, turning on NFC only if necessary, and using an antivirus, it notes 360.ru . They also reminded that you should not trust the calls of strangers.
