The KCR has become one of the centers of attraction for tourists from different regions

The Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia (KCR) celebrated the bicentenary of the capital of the region, one of the most colorful cities in Russia — Cherkessk, the date coincides with Republic Day. On September 8, residents of the republic told Izvestia about the development of the region, the national cuisine and the way of life of the KCR.

"The Cossack uniform is slightly taken from the peoples of the Caucasus. The Cossacks accepted it because it was a convenient uniform," said Olga Ugnevenko, a participant in the celebration.

According to Izvestia correspondent Sergei Khaidarov, over 80 nationalities live in peace and friendship in Karachay-Cherkessia, but there are five of them that form the subject: Russians, Abaza, Circassians, Karachays and Nogais.

The cuisine of these peoples is distinctive and unique. Thus, the hallmark of the republic is the local pastry — khichiny. It takes skill and dexterity to make hychin perfect. This dish here is a kind of local fast food.

Karachay-Cherkessia is one of the most beautiful regions in the country. These are mountains, lakes, waterfalls, extreme sports and romance for tourists who come here.

"Thanks to the support of the Russian government and the personal support of the president, we have built the Arkhyz seasonal resort, and we continue to build and develop it. But today, if we take the republic as a whole, with a population of 500 thousand people, last year it was more than 2.5 million tourists," said the head of the republic Rashid Temrezov.

Arkhyz resort is relatively young, but it is already being compared to French Courchevel.

"In summer, it attracts tourists with its lakes and mountains. And in winter, riders gather here to ride on the slopes," added Ansar Khubiev, a tourism instructor.

Winter in Arkhyz is just the peak of tourism. Hundreds of thousands of extreme athletes will come here again this season, not only for thrills, but also for a warm welcome.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with Temrezov on July 30, noted that he considers the Arkhyz resort, located in the republic, to be a beautiful place. The Russian President also asked Temrezov when the airport would be built. According to the head of Karachay-Cherkessia, flights there will probably be possible from 2029. As Putin pointed out, after the opening of the airport, the number of tourists will immediately increase.
