Adam Smith, a member of the US House of Representatives, called the decision to rename the "Ministry of Defense" to the "Ministry of War" meaningless. He shared this in an interview with NBC News on September 6, posted on the publication's YouTube channel.

The politician said that renaming the Pentagon makes no sense, since virtually nothing has changed.

"What kind of signal is sent when you impose 50% tariffs on India, the most important country that we have tried to make our ally? <...> This sends a signal to [India] to join our opponents and not join us," Smith stressed.

In addition, he criticized such foreign policy steps by US President Donald Trump as the bombing of Iran and Venezuela, adding that the American leader "ran for president saying that he would lead us out of wars, now it seems that he intends to drag us into them."

On September 5, Trump signed a decree renaming the country's "ministry of defense" to the "Ministry of War" for the duration of his presidential term. He took the initiative to return the historical name on August 26. The American leader clarified that the agency had such a name during the First and Second World Wars. He also noted that the "ministry of war" sounds more weighty.
