Representatives of the United States and the European Union (EU) will hold a meeting on September 8, during which they will raise the issue of the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions. This was reported on September 5 by the Associated Press (AP) agency, citing sources.

"A group of European officials led by EU Special Representative for sanctions David O'Sullivan will visit the US Treasury Department on Monday to discuss various forms of economic pressure on Russia, including new sanctions," the publication says.

It is noted that also on Friday, September 5, the American Minister of Finance Scott Bessent held a conversation with the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen.

It is expected that representatives of the White House, the State Department and the trade mission will take part in the future meeting from the United States.

On September 4, the Bild newspaper reported that a tense telephone conversation had taken place between European leaders and US President Donald Trump due to disagreements on anti-Russian sanctions. It was noted that the EU countries do not expect the American president to decide on the introduction of new sanctions against Russia.

Von der Leyen announced on August 17 that the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia would be ready in early September. According to her, the EU has already begun preparations for new restrictions.
