Russia cannot ignore the fact that Finland is a member of NATO and is building military infrastructure on the border with Russia. This was announced on September 5 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, during a working trip to the North-Western Federal District.

"We cannot ignore the fact that Finland is currently a member of the North Atlantic Alliance. This also determines a change in our military approaches to border management and to repel possible unfriendly acts," Medvedev said.

According to him, Finland is also building infrastructure on the border with the Russian Federation for the deployment of military units. He also stressed the need to strengthen the security of state borders in the north-west of the country.

Earlier, on September 1, the Finnish Ministry of Defense announced that the headquarters of the command of the Northern Land Component of NATO (MCLCC) began work in the country in the city of Mikkeli. At the initial stage of the operation, the number of staff at the headquarters will be about 10 people. In the coming years, the number of staff will be increased to about 50 employees.

On August 26, the Politico newspaper reported that the Polish and Finnish authorities were considering the possibility of restoring swamps on the borders with the Russian Federation in order to protect against the alleged Russian threat. It was noted that the swampy area is difficult for military equipment, so the authorities of European countries plan to water previously drained peat bogs.
