Kalashnikov reported a 2.5-fold increase in trade turnover between China and the Far East

The trade turnover between the northeast of China and the regions of the Russian Far East increased 2.5 times. This was announced on September 5 by Viktor Kalashnikov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Senator from the Khabarovsk Territory.

"I want to emphasize the importance of trade development. In six years, trade between the northeast of China and the border territories of the Far East has increased 2.5 times," he said during the Russia–China session.: the Regional dimension" at the Eastern Economic Forum — 2025 (WEF-2025).

He noted that checkpoints are currently being intensively developed in the Primorsky, Khabarovsk and Trans-Baikal Territories, as well as in the Amur and Jewish Autonomous Regions. It is noted that in 2024, the trade turnover increased by 5.5 million tons in land-based settlements alone. In the first half of 2025, the trade turnover increased by another 36%.

According to him, despite the active development of trade, there are currently no major investment projects. Kalashnikov stressed the need for such initiatives for cross-border territories. He noted that these should be small projects that will contribute to the effective development of further ties.

The senator stressed that the opening of investment cooperation centers, following the example of those that have already been established with Japan, could become an impetus for strengthening relations. Kalashnikov noted that such investment platforms are currently necessary for further effective cross-border cooperation between the Russian Federation and China.
