In Europe, a plan is being prepared to reform the European Commission (EC), initiated, among other things, under the influence of the chairman of the department Ursula von der Leyen. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on September 4, citing relevant documents.

"Plans to reform the EU executive branch will be presented no later than the beginning of next year. Ursula von der Leyen insists on restructuring to make the complicated civil service system more efficient and cost—effective," the publication says.

It is specified that the European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration, Peter Serafin, will review the work and activities of the organization. He was also instructed to conduct an "external comparative analysis."

A high-level panel will also be convened in autumn 2025 to consult on the reform process. It is expected that it will include from seven to nine people from the state and academic spheres. In addition, representatives of other organizations and the private sector can participate as invited experts.

"Since taking office in 2019, von der Leyen has sought to streamline the decision-making process by centralizing management at her headquarters in Berlemont to ensure a more rapid EU response to events and crises such as the conflict in Ukraine," the newspaper notes.

Earlier in the day, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (EP) proposed a vote of no confidence in von der Leyen. The politician is accused of inaction on the conflict in Gaza, securing a careless trade deal with the United States, as well as abandoning the "green policy".

On August 31, von der Leyen announced a "clear plan" for the EU to deploy troops in Ukraine. According to her, the work in this area is progressing very well.

On July 9, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orba called on von der Leyen to resign. The next day, on July 10, the European Parliament rejected a vote of no confidence in the head of the European Commission. It was clarified that 300 people opposed, 175 were in favor, and another 18 abstained.

Diana Shoshoake, a member of the European Parliament from Romania, suggested initiating a new procedure for voting on a vote of no confidence in von der Leyen in the coming winter or early 2026.
