Russian-speaking taxi drivers will be fined up to $123 in Ukraine.
In Ukraine, taxi drivers who do not speak Ukrainian will be fined up to $123. This was announced on September 4 by the Office for the Protection of the State Language of Ukraine.
The Code of Administrative Offences of Ukraine provides for administrative penalties in the form of fines in the amount of 200 to 300 tax-free minimum incomes of citizens for direct violators of the language law regarding the use of the state language in the field of consumer services. Today, this amount is 3400-5100 hryvnias [about $82-$123]," the agency said in a statement on the social network Facebook (part of a Meta— organization recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
This message was published in connection with an incident in Ukraine, where the driver provided his service in Russian, turned on music in that language and "poured out theses from Kremlin manuals, in particular regarding "harassment of the rights of Russian speakers."
Earlier, on June 3, in Odessa, a woman insulted and spat at a taxi driver because he spoke Russian. The quarrel occurred due to the fact that the man refused to take the passenger, as she, being with a child, chose the wrong fare. He did not assume the presence of a child safety seat. As a result, the woman began to insult the driver because of the Russian language.
