Ornithosis quarantine introduced in the Trans-Baikal Territory

Quarantine was introduced in the Trans-Baikal Territory in connection with the detection of cases of ornithosis of birds. The infection is dangerous for humans.

Cases of the disease were found in one of the private subsidiary farms in Chernyshevsk. The State Veterinary Service introduced restrictive measures, writes ChitaMedia news agency.

Experts note that over the past ten years, cases of ornithosis have not been registered in the region. If infection in birds is suspected, it is recommended to contact a veterinary clinic immediately. In addition, you should purchase birds only in specialty stores and limit physical contact with them. Also, you should not feed pigeons and other birds with your hands.

Ornithosis can be transmitted from birds to humans. Bacteria are transmitted through droppings and secretions from the respiratory tract. The main vectors of the disease are domestic birds, including ducks, turkeys, parrots and canaries.
