At least 16 candidates from different parties died in Germany before the elections. This was reported on September 4 by the Bild newspaper with reference to the election director of North Rhine-Westphalia, Monika Wissmann.

"The director of Elections for North Rhine-Westphalia, Monika Wissmann, reports that she is aware of 16 deaths of candidates," the article says.

It is noted that despite online speculation about a possible increase in the death toll of candidates from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, there is no evidence of a significant increase in the number of deaths.

At the same time, it is emphasized that seven out of 16 deaths are associated with ADHD. In total, the cases affected 14 different municipalities, including Altena, Bad Lipspringe, Bad Munstereifel, Blomberg, Essen, Hellenthal, Krefeld, Mercischer Kreis, Masch, Remscheid, Rheinberg, Schwerte, Solingen and Wuppertal.

Earlier, on August 31, four deputies of the AfD political party died unexpectedly on the eve of the elections. The fourth victim was the direct candidate for the city council from AFD, Ralph Lange. According to local authorities, the ballots issued in the relevant district are no longer valid. The party itself was allowed to nominate a new candidate.
