Magnetic storms in 2024 were the strongest in the last 20 years. This was announced on September 4 in the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS).

"The previous year, which started from current values, was marked by the strongest magnetic storms and flashes of a level close to X10 in 20 years," the Telegram channel says.

The laboratory also noted an increase in the solar cycle for the third month in a row. It is specified that since May of this year, it has increased by almost 70% and returned to the levels of the beginning of 2024.

Earlier, on September 2, it was reported about the beginning of planetary-scale magnetic storms on Earth. It was specified that the aurora zone will be formed in Canada and the Scandinavian countries. This phenomenon was also observed in the north-western Russian regions.
