Chinese companies are interested in studying Rusal's experience in implementing artificial intelligence. This was stated by Elena Bezdenezhnykh, Vice President of Rusal, speaking at the session "Digital Silk Road: Russia and China in the field of digital technologies and AI" of the Eastern Economic Forum.

"Our Chinese colleagues recently defined us as 'Hand in hand with Artificial Intelligence, opening up an intelligent future,' which is very valuable to us. We are trying to comply in order not only to deepen aluminum processing, but also to use AI to create additional value and quality," Bezdenezhnykh said.

As noted during the session, China is one of Rusal's largest aluminum sales markets. In the summer of 2025, Chinese business and industry metallurgical media wrote about Rusal's introduction of artificial intelligence technologies into production and noted the global leadership of the Russian company in this area.

"The introduction of AI at Rusal is not a one—time initiative, but a profound transformation integrated into the DNA of all processes, forming new technological standards for the entire industry," the Chinese business portal noted. China.com "The electrolysis control technology based on artificial intelligence analyzes thousands of parameters in real time, allowing to reduce energy consumption, increase stability electrolysis and reduce the percentage of defects in Rusal's finished products," the portal wrote. Alu.cn . International Metalworking News and China industry News Network reported on the practical application of AI by Rusal and other industrial companies, and China Nonferrous Metal News stated that Rusal is one of the global pioneers of AI integration in metallurgy.

Currently, Rusal uses more than ten AI technologies in its production. Only this year, the company began using neural networks to analyze the microstructure of ingots, to monitor the production process of aluminum alloys, as well as in the global aluminum production monitoring system. In the summer, Rusal introduced the first technology using machine hearing: It allows you to control the loading of bauxite ore mills in alumina plants.

According to experts, the introduction of AI into production is financially profitable in the long run.

"Investments in digitalization and AI are not just about finance, retail, and Internet companies. Especially now, against the background of a clear slowdown in the economy, the source of growth should be faster labor productivity growth in traditional industries. Rusal's progress in using AI, and in such diverse areas as, for example, container fleet management, optimizing the operation of alumina mills, and quality control of final products are examples of what reserves of efficiency can be harnessed using the latest technologies. Using our own developments allows us to gain competitive advantages, including in export markets. And at the same time maintain a high level of competence, which will certainly be in demand by other Russian companies within the country," commented Boris Kopeikin, Chief Economist at the N. A. Stolypin Institute of Growth Economics.
