The head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen expressed her condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the descent of the funicular elevator da Gloria in Lisbon. She wrote about this on September 3 on her page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"It is sad to learn about the disruption of the famous Elevator of Glory. My condolences to the families of the victims," commented von der Leyen.

According to local media, 15 people were killed and 18 injured, five are in hospital.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the incident with the famous Portuguese funicular was not the first time. Due to problems with technical equipment, it was already derailed in 2018. Then there were no casualties.
