The Kaluga Region court declared Ivan Nekrasov, a 32-year-old resident of the Vologda Region, insane for abducting kangaroos from zoos in the Yaroslavl and Kaluga regions, and sent him to a psychiatric hospital for compulsory treatment. This was reported on September 3 in the press service of the prosecutor's office of the region.

It is noted that the defendant committed the crime of kidnapping several animals, being in the stage of severe chronic psychological disorder, which did not allow him to realize the danger of actions.

"The court found it proven that the acts prohibited by criminal law were committed by a person in a state of insanity, and therefore released him from criminal liability and applied to him a compulsory medical measure in the form of compulsory treatment in a medical organization," the agency's website says.

The theft of baby kangaroo from the Yaroslavl Zoo became known in September last year. At the same time, in October, a suspected thief was detained in the Vladimir region along with a Baby and two kangaroo cubs from the Kaluga region. The attacker intended to sell the animals, for which he was taking them to Moscow. One of the kangaroos died, the second was rescued by the police and returned to the zoo. The attacker managed to sell the crumble, but law enforcement officers found it in a private house near Korolev and seized it.

The Zavolzhsky District Court of Yaroslavl arrested Nekrasov on October 4, 2024. During the meeting, he had a tantrum, he demanded to stop recording video and audio.
