Manturov questioned Mazda's desire to return to Vladivostok
Mazda has not come out with a proposal to exercise an option to buy out a stake in a former joint venture with Sollers in Vladivostok and is unlikely to do so, although the option is already running out. This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, TASS reported on September 3.
The Russian authorities do not see the need for Mazda's participation in production, since Sollers retained the plant's team and restarted the Far Eastern enterprise, where it now produces buses, Manturov said.
The relaunch of the former Mazda plant took place in September 2023. At first, the company began production of molded Chinese JAC pickups. Later, two models joined the assembly line — the flagship tourist bus Sollers SA9 and the intercity Sollers SA6.
After Mazda left the Russian market, Sollers took over the concern's share in the Far Eastern joint venture, the transaction amount was €1. Before the shutdown, the plant produced Mazda 6, CX-5 and CX-9 models. Mazda estimated losses from leaving Russia at $82 million.
Earlier on July 11, it was reported that Sollers Transmission Manufacturing had launched the production of electromechanical transfer cases for the Sollers line of pickups and UAZ vehicles.
